Visitor Comments: As midshipmen, USNA '69, Tom Cavanaugh and I were on board the summer of 1968. We pulled in to Martha's Vineyard, where I met Joseph E. and Rosalee Levine. Joe produced the movie "The Graduate," and he and Rosalee visited the sub. Joe presented a 16mm copy of the movie to the crew. Joe was rather "stout," and he barely fit through the hatch. I remember the crew marching in the Independence Day parade. Tom and I were out front carrying a Becuna banner. I also remember the XO giving me hell when I reported aboard because I was wearing a Marine Corps belt buckle with my uniform. The CO asked me if I was going Marine Corps upon graduation and I replied yes. He then told the XO I could wear it. Does anyone remember the XO and CO names during that time? Does anyone keep up with them? My best to everyone who served -- thanks!

Visitor Comments: I served on board the Becuna from approx 1966 to 1968. I qualified aboard the Becuna and was an Interior communications electrician. I was E5 when I left in 1968.

I would like to see if anyone knows where George Pike can be reached, He served approximately the same time in the Electricians gang.

Chief Ready was the chief of the boat at the time and was a great role model for all the young men that served with him.

Visitor Comments: Great site with great information. I'm referencing it by name for an upcoming entry in my personal blog. (www.proudyankeeinfidel.blogspot.com)

Keep up the great work. I visited the Becuna recently for the 2nd time and learned alot from the volunteer (a sub vet) who was there. I only wish more than one deck was open for tour. Thanks again.

Visitor Comments: My father, CAPT Frank Smith, was skipper of BECUNA from Jan. 46 to Aug. 47. He went on to take the icebreaker STATEN ISLAND (AGB-5) north to Alert Station two cruises in '52 & '53 and then WYANDOT (AKA-92) to the South Pole in '58. Dad retired in '64 after serving as COMSUBRON 3 in San Diego and COMSUBGRU San Francisco.

Would like to visit the boat in Philadelphia some day and share some old photos of her.

Sorry to hear about the spammers, Sandy; your
previous effort was exemplary. The Becky Bee was and is a great boat, with a great crew. The best memory is of the 1963 Med Cruise (San Remo the best port), during which we were able to introduce the free world to the Julliet class, with all the excitement that went with that operation (sounded like a Foxtrot power plant to me).
