Visitor Comments: Dear All, I am writing about the "No Idling Bill" that would prohibit the unnecessary idling of all cars and trucks. This Bill, which WAS BILL 988 passed comfortably both the Environment and the Transportation Committees. Then, when it was sent to the Public Safety Committee, it was simply never raised for a vote. That means it was unbelievably left to die by that committee. It now has to be resurrected as an amendment onto another Bill. This amendment will be important for our health as vehicle exhaust is both a carcinogen and a trigger for asthma attacks --- and it is important for global warming.
COULD YOU PLEASE - e-mail or call your OWN State Senator and State Representative and ask them to support an amendment that will support the "No Idling Amendment" that had once been Bill S.B. 988. We understand that the State Representatives and State Senators are getting so many e-mails and calls - that they will only read the e-mails and pay attention to THEIR OWN constituents. Therefore in the Subject line of your e-mail could you put: From your constituent. Also - if you call -- be sure to say you are a constituent. I am sorry to lean on you - but if we are to get this passed - we need help.
Thanks, |

Visitor Comments: My daughter Perry and I are selling eggs. We have been packing eggs in cartons donated by various friends and acquaintances, but the recently increased volume of eggs being sold has caused us to run short of cartons. We could buy new ones but it would raise our overhead costs significantly, and besides, we know there are hundreds of egg cartons being tossed out every day in Milford that could be re-used instead. Could you send out word to our local environmentalists that we'd be happy to take their clean used egg cartons? Drop them off anytime at the Farmstand at Rivercrest Farm. |

Where might I direct inquiries? I would like to make a donation in order to have a tree planted. Any information will be greatly appreciated. |

Visitor Comments: Dear All, I hate to bother you with this - but it is that time of year. The school pesticide Bill -- Bill 5234 that will ban lawn-care pesticides on the grounds of schools K-8 is up for a vote on the floor of the house tomorrow. There is a rumor that the pesticide industry plans to propose an amendment to the Bill that would provide for Integrated Pest Management (IPM) instead of a ban. This will not only weaken the Bill, but will also undo the ban of lawn-care pesticides on the grounds of elementary schools that was enacted into law in 2005. This would be a major step backward. If you can - would you contact your State Representative and ask him or her to vote for the Bill without any weakening amendments. Please put in the Subject line "from a constituent" so they will read it. To find your legislator you can go to the CT General Assembly's website is: http://www.cga.ct.gov
Thank you for any help with this - CT's children will appreciate it. |

Visitor Comments: Concerned about pesticide and fertilizer use by your town on its ball fields and other municipal properties? You are encouraged to attend a premiere showing of DEP's new Organic Land Care DVD on Wednesday, October 25th at 10:00 AM in the Phoenix Auditorium at DEP's Headquarters, 79 Elm St., Hartford.
Commissioner McCarthy is scheduled to speak along with Organic Land Care Professionals from the Northeast Organic Farming Association (CT NOFA). You will hear about making the DVD and about DEP's plan to distribute it to municipalities.
The 7-_ minute DVD describes organic land care (which generally means that no synthetic pesticides or fertilizers are used) and its benefits and potential challenges. Highlighted are two Connecticut towns implementing it on their playing fields, including on location interviews with Cheshire's Parks and Recreation Director and Granby's Director of Public Works. Also featured is footage from the University of Connecticut's Research Farm where different fertilizer formulations are being tested.
For more information, contact Judy Prill, DEP Office of Pollution Prevention, at (860) 424-3694 or judith.prill@po.state.ct.us
