| Visitor Comments: I am writing a historical fiction of our family, with emphasis on the Scot-Irish roots into SC and NC, USA. Sorting out fact from fiction is difficult, so maybe combining historic truth and fiction might work. Love to hear from folks. I use De as my nickname. |

Very good site! Thanks!
Just letting all know, we are working on having a descendant of the Kikrpatricks of Closeburn take a Y-DNA test to establish a baseline-DNA for the family. Our participant dates back to a Thomas, son of John, born in 1753 in Closeburn
Also, I've set up a Kirkpatrick/Kilpatrick Research and Sharing website.

| Visitor Comments: I live in Hot Springs Arkansas and am a descendant of Lewis K, the first Kirkpatrick in AR [~1827]. He was descended from James Kirkpatrick of South Carolina, who emigrated from Ulster with several brothers around 1730. Their father was Alexander of Wattie's Neach, Nithside, Dumfriesshire. There are several indications that Alexander was the son of George, but info on this George has been missing. It is possible that the father of the above Alexander was another Alexander, who in turn was the son of George. There was some misinformation that our George was George of Knock, but that is clearly not the case. Any relavant info would be most welcome. |

Visitor Comments: I have loved learning about the Kirkpatrick family. My Great,Great-Grandfather is Brodie Kirkpatrick. I have been searching for information on Roger Kirkpatrick, who was Wizard of the North Scottish Chieftains in the year 1200. Although I have read the story of Roger Kirkpatrick (father and son), I'm still not sure if they are my ancestor's. If someone can help me with this, I would greatly appreciate it. |

| Visitor Comments: Great website. I recently rediscovered, on-line, the memoirs of my great grandfather George Morgan Kirkpatrick who fought in the Civil War with the 42nd Indiana, A Co. I've traced our family roots to Samuel born in N. Ireland 1769. From the similar first Names in our branch of the Kirkpatricks, I suspect we're part of the Closeburn Branch that immigrated from lowlland Scotland to Ireland in 1690. |

Visitor Comments: As a Kirkpatrick brought up in Dumfries, I am aware of many of the stories about the family and places associated with it. The history lacks scholarly input and is a mixture of legend and misconception. The family, after the Wars of Independence became greatly fragmented and their progress is difficult to track via many branches and generations sharing the same christian names. Indeed even within one generation, a child which died would have its name given to a sibling or cousin. I have done some research into my lineage, which goes back to a Matthew Kirkpatrick of Kier Mill and then on to coachmen and gate keepers at Mavisbank House near Polmont in Lothian. No doubt there have been many liars and rogues in the history of the Kirkpatricks, but it is unfortunate that such a high profile one was Jeannette Kirkpatrick, the US Secretary of State who supported Argentina against Britain over the Falklands. |
