 Amazing; I was searching for details of the Gumdrop series , to buy a copy for my daughter who is now 22. She learnt reading was a pleasure through these books and the whole family still refer to lovely vintage cars as Gumdrop. We got all the books from our local library so have no copy to bring back those happy memories.I am looking to select a title we remember most vividly. I am so glad to have found this web site; hope you manage to finish it soon!

My sister (aged 34) and I (30) were reminicing yesterday about the day you and Gumdrop came to our school,  Tilehouse County Combined in Denham.  The sheer fact we remember his occasion (It mustve been 20 - 25 years ago!) goes to show how special it is to the children to have such fantastic visitors. 


My sister and I are testament to the unforgettably good work you do.

Thanks for sharing all these stories Horace - this site has made me feel about five years old again!


I had no idea that Val had produced illustrations for other books I'd read (e.g A Cat Called Amnesia) or that I's deen his work in the RT every week!


What I really, really need to do now is to find some copies of the Gumdrop books - or even a collection of them all together.


Where can I purchase them from please?
