An interesting piece of family legend. In 1812, Zelik Ickovich Seifer was reported by Isaac Safer his grandson (as related to me by my father, Harold Safer), to have seen Napoleon on his white horse as the French troops distributed hay to the Jews in his home town. He (Napoleon) was described as a small man in a green uniform. He was on his way into Russia. The Polish Jews supported Napoleon. The Russian Jews opposed him. |

Let me add that I am the father of Nicole Safer (born 1989) and Hannah Safer(born 1992). I am divorced but their mother is Veronica Foley, WHo converted to Judaism. My mother's name was Natalie Safer, nee Kohn.

I recall back in the early 80's, I think it was Sam Weller took me along on his travels in South Florida selling material goods with the intent I may be interested in doing the same. It was great to see pictures posted on the internet of my Grandparents with their small children, including my Dad, Aunt Fannie, Uncle Charles and Aunt Sarah. Thanks for taking on this great project. |
