Visitor Comments: I just read the new biography of Grant by Joan Waugh and was inspired to read his personal memoirs.  I learned a lot about him and have the greatest admiration for the man.  His rise from nothing to command the entire Union Army was extraordinary and entirely based on merit, and he held the army together through the disastrous presidency of Andrew Johnson, whom he did not like.  A man of action, duty and principle who refused to allow celebration of his troops after Appomattox, insisting on treating his vanquished foes with dignity.  I reccommend the new book.

Visitor Comments: Good morning!
I had a man show up in a dream last night, a stranger, who had come to me to offer wisdom and support. Our time for me together was cut short because it started to rain (?) but in reviewing what he shared with me after he left it was clear. One name was represented- and in fact repeated: Ulysses S. Grant. Not being a great history scholar (understatement!) I've come to your site to find out about him. Thank you!

As a tour guide at Grant Cottage ( on Mount McGregor, just north of Saratoga Springs NY, the place General Grant died in 1885 ), I am impressed with and grateful for your web site. Grant has been all but forgotten in our time - and shouldn't be!

Come visit us this Summer!
