| Visitor Comments: Hi Paul,
I very much enjoyed reading your 'Summer Stock' series! Though I no longer live at Ram Island Farm, I was once married to Milly Monks' daughter, Melinda, and know and in some cases still see on a regular basis many of the individuals you mention, including Ellen Higgins, Bobby & Melinda Monks, Kate & Charlotte Higgins, Marge Dunham, David Goulet, and so on. I first came to RIF in the early 80's, but even then the locals spoke wistfully of the RIF summer theater. The old barn is still there, though parts have been rebuilt completely, and I suspect that there's some of the old lighting and other theatrical rigging still in place. Some years later Bobby Monks took over the old Odd Fellows Hall in Portland and converted it into a small but first rate theater for the Portland Stage Company and the modern dance company Milly started in the years after the old theater ceased to exist - Ram Island Dance, of course! In any case, your writing is wonderful, and makes those days come alive, and I will be sure to share the link with Milly as well.
Many thanks, and best wishes, Ric Marshall

| Visitor Comments: am just starting to trace Dad's side of the family. I know his father came from Germany, Jacob Roth. I also know that Jacobs father and a brother came over to America. I know his mother and an older brother stayed in Germany. The mother was sick and the brother was inducted in the army. I am not sure what Jacobs fathers name was. |

Visitor Comments: I have enjoyed looking over the site. I am supposedly a Roth, though my line has evolved the name to Rhoades. I am very interested in finding out if we are related and if we can help each others research. I have my line traced back to the Columbia County, PA area. Casper Rhodes(Roth) b - 9 April 1763 ( rumored Germany) d - 18 May 1837 in Roaring Creek Township, Columbia, Pennsylvania, USA. He had several children in the area. Casper is my brick wall. I have nothing on his actual birth place or parents. I do know he had a brother that did fight in the revolutionary war.
Anyway, I welcome anyone contacting me regarding this if you have more info or questions.

| Visitor Comments: Beginning to get serious about my family roots;Great grand-parents and grand-parents from Wilkes Barre, PA area. Large family originally emigrated from Germany during middle-late 1800's. I have a "sackfull" of family heirloom photos with notations and letters to work with but any of our elders who might might retain any measure of recognition have, unfortunately, passed on. I would like very much to attempt to document the history. |
